Trips explore

The trips explore screen allows you to search, sort, and browse trips that the community has created all in one place. It's a powerful feature with a few ways to get the most out of it.

Note: By default only trips tracked in SeaPeople are shown. Manual, imported, future, or social posts are not shown by default. However, you can add them to the map by selecting the filter button in the search box.

Here are some of the best ways to get the most out of the trips explore feature:

  1. Heatmap: move the map and find a region you're interested in learning more about and zoom in. You'll see the top 100 trips shown on the map simultaneously. You can then filter and sort those trips. The sorting options let you organize by distance, newest, or popularity. You can also click on each track to see the trip card for each. This is great to find ideas for anchorages and how boats are travelling between areas (eg, general itinerary ideas).

  2. Filtering: Use the quick filters below the search box to find trips with specific topics (eg, fishing, orcas, hiring, etc…). The filters apply to the region being shown on the map. You can also type other search terms into the search box and trip names, descriptions, boat model/make, and region names will be searched. If you want to dig even deeper you can open the filters and create your own custom filter criteria like looking for trips by boat type (sailing, human powered, motor, distance, duration, or popularity).

  3. Recency: One of the fun use cases is finding people to talk with about your upcoming trip. Find an area you are in now or want to visit and sort the trips by "Newest" and you'll see the people around you with recent trips in the area. That's a great way to find people to ask question to.

The selected track line will show in dark red and will match the trip card shown in the bottom. You can either scroll the trip cards to browse the trips in that region, or select a track from the map to see it's trip card.

Trips explore requires a Plus or Patron plan to use.
