How to verify a group

Verified groups in SeaPeople gain added visibility and credibility, making them stand out in the community. However these verified groups are only for bonafide organizations existing outside of SeaPeople with existing membership bases, or SeaPeople groups that have shown a history of creating real-life, in-person gatherings amongst group members.

Here’s how to request group verification and the requirements your group must meet to qualify.

Steps to request group verification

  1. Check the guidelines for verifiable groups

Thoroughly read the requirements and criteria for verification found below.

  1. Submit your request

    Fill out the required form

  2. Wait for review

Once submitted, your request will be reviewed by the SeaPeople moderation team. If you receive no reply or have not seen a verification badge appear, we have decided that your group does not meet the current threshold for verification. BUT please remember, discussion groups are the core of our community, and we love you for being with us. If you feel like you have been incorrectly classified, you can resubmit your request after 14 days.

Requirements and criteria for group verification

To ensure that verified groups maintain quality and relevance, we look for the following before verifying a group.

  • Established club, organization, or association with existing members outside of SeaPeople.
Existing organizations with membership bases, events, gatherings, etc.

  • In-person Gatherings
Groups that go beyond discussion and also create recurring, in-person, gatherings. Examples are rallies, boat shows, flotilla events, fishing tournaments, etc.

    • Active Membership
A verified group should also demonstrate consistent activity, such as regular posts and engagement from members

    • Adherence to Guidelines
The group must comply with SeaPeople’s community standards, promoting a safe and respectful environment.

    • Relevance to the Boating Community
The group’s content and discussions should align with the interests and values of SeaPeople users and the reason SeaPeople users use the platform. Keep it relevant to batting and boaters life.
