Sharing live and finished trips

Ways to share.

Whether you're currently underway, or your trip has finished, you can share your trips in various ways with friends, family, and followers. In the app and on the web.

In this article we will cover:

  • Sharing live trips in the app with other users

  • Sharing live trips to friends/ family/ followers on the web

  • Sharing finished trips to friends/ family/ followers on the web

  • Tagging trips to Groups

Sharing live trips in the app with other users

Sharing your live trip in the app with other users is totally hands off and completely dependent on your privacy settings.

  • LIVE: If you are set to 'live' in your location sharing settings, your live trip will appear at the top of the home feed of anyone who follows you. You will also appear live on the explore maps with a speed and heading indicator.

  • PINNED: If you are set to 'pinned' in your location sharing settings, your live trips will only appear in the home feeds, and your location will only appear live on the explore map, if you choose 'live while tracking' on our tracking control screen. This setting will allow you to be visible while underway, and return to your pinned location as soon as you end tracking.

  • HIDDEN: If you are set to 'hidden' in your location sharing settings, your live trips will only appear in the home feeds, and your location will only appear live on the explore map, if you choose 'live while tracking' on our tracking control screen. This setting will allow you to be visible while underway, and return to being hidden as soon as you end tracking.

Sharing live trips to friends/ family/ followers on the web

Sharing your live trip gives your friends and family back home peace of mind while they keep up with your movements in real-time. It's also a really fun way to engage followers on social media platforms, allowing them to ride along with you.

HOW-TO:
While underway, navigate to the tracking screen in your app and press the "Share trip" button inset in the map.

This will generate a link for you to send to friends, family, and followers so they can follow your position live, see your live stats, read your trip updates, and more. Read more about live web stats.

🔱 Live web sharing is a paid feature for PLUS and PATRON users.

Sharing finished trips to friends/ family/ followers on the web

Whether you just finished an hour paddle, a daysail, some wakeboarding, or an ocean passage, it's fun to share the trip with others.

Look for the share icon anywhere your trips are found in the app. The icon can be found on the home feeds after you post a trip, or in your profile logbook after opening a trip.

Sharing a finished trip in seapeople

1) Tap the share icon
2) Copy & paste the link, or share directly from your phones native share options
3) Share in group chats, emails, social posts, and more.

If you share the link with a person who has the SeaPeople mobile app, that link will open directly in their app. For all others, the link will open to your SeaPeople trip webpage.

Tagging trips to Groups

Another great way to share your finished trips in SeaPeople is to tag the trip to a Group, ensuring your fellow group members, that may be interested in your trip, don't miss it.

You can tag your trip to a group while you are first creating the trip details before posting, or later by tapping the edit ✏️ button on any saved trip, scrolling down, and tagging the group.

*You can only tag one group per trip and you can only tag groups that you have joined.
