Destinations and Places (POIs)

Exploring Destinations

Destinations are an ecosystem of places. An area made up of anchorages, marinas, restaurants, provisioning places, and more. They are viewed on the Places explore map at wide zooms.

We created Destinations specifically for the boaters use case. You may not know exactly where you want to anchor, or where you want to grab fuel, but you do know how far you are willing, or wanting, to go on any given say.

Destinations make it easy to explore an area in a quick view and learn critical information when deciding where to point the bow. How popular is the destination (SeaPeople trip counts), how awesome is it (SeaPeople score), the places within the destination (like anchorages or marinas etc) and what can you expect to find there: Quiet anchorages, customs offices, fuel services, and so much more. Our favorite: the ranking within a region. Showing you exactly how popular a destination is compared to others nearby. Maybe this rank makes you want go, maybe this makes you seek out the less popular spots. Use it to cruise around the way that fits your style.

Every destination has a SeaPeople score, trip count, LocalGuide brief, quick tags, RouteIntel, and the ability to add your own intel; like images, tips, or local knowledge.

A horizontal scroll through destinations will show you each destination in your map zoom in a descending order from highest SeaPeople score to lowest.

Tap a destination car on the bottom sheet to open the full details.

Tap a destination on the map to auto-zoom in on the destination, into a closer zoom that reveals the individual places within that destination.

Quick tip: make sure you have your device location sharing set to 'while using app' or 'always' to see destination distances from you. Making your afternoon or next day trip planning easy, efficient and fast.

Exploring Places

Places is the SeaPeople name for points of interest (POIs). At the launch of SeaPeople 4.0 we have generated a set of places in the following categories:
- Anchorages
- Marinas
- Restaurants (that are walkable and highly recommended for boaters)
- Marine Stores
- Provisions (like markets, grocers, bakers and more close to the water)

Explore places at tight zoom levels on the Places explore map.

A tap to a place on the map will focus the bottom sheet card to that place for a quick view of the place card containing the name, distance from you (if location permissions are on), SeaPeople score (for marinas and anchorages only), trip counts, and other quick tags we may have.

Tap the card to open the full view. And read all the details about a place.

Have some intel to share? Some local knowledge you think other boaters would benefit from? Just tap the 'add intel' tab on any open place and leave a quick note or edit detailed information about the place. We review all entries and edits and additional info assed to any place will not appear immediately.

Adding a place to SeaPeople

Adding a place, like an anchorage, marina, restaurant, store and more, is as simple as a long tap on the map. Tap and hold the exact place on the map where you want to add a place.

We will digest that suggestion, run it against our user trip history containing other info about the place, and generate the place listing if approved. This is not immediate. Please do not suggest a place more than once.

A prudent mariner checks multiple sources before entering an anchorage, marina, or harbor. SeaPeople is intended for route and destination inspiration. Showing boaters where to go and how people generally get there. It is not intended as navigational advice, charting, track lines to be followed in-app or otherwise.
