Surfboards, Schoolbooks & Saltwater: We're LIVE with the DIY Family Behind Sailing Catalpa
They bought a beat-up ferro-cement sailboat and made it their full-time home. Now, after 15,000 miles of waves, storms, and surf sessions, Sailing Catalpa is coming to SeaPeople Live to share how they actually made it work.
Ask your questions, join us live. June 11th, 1300 EST.
Don't just talk doing it. Do it.
When most people say they want to “sail away someday,” Lee and Sara actually did it. With two young kids, a $15,000 ferro-cement boat, and zero safety net, they launched into the unknown—and kept going.
10 years, numerous countries, countless waves, and one global pandemic later, Sailing Catalpa is still out there: surfing remote reefs, schooling their kids on board, making all their repairs by hand, and cooking fresh meals in some of the most beautiful places on earth.

The Family Who Didn’t Wait
Lee, Sara, Taj & Bella didn’t wait for the perfect boat, the right amount of money, or a stable plan. They bought what they could afford, learned as they went, and built a floating life fueled by love, curiosity, and saltwater.

Surfing, Sailing & DIY Survival
When something breaks, Lee fixes it. When the surf’s up, they drop anchor and paddle out. This is a life built on self-reliance, passion, and chasing adventure wherever it calls.

Raising Free-Roaming Ocean Kids
From coral reefs to math lessons on deck, Taj and Bella are growing up on the move. Hear how this tight-knit crew balances schooling, parenting, and giving their kids the world.

Cooking in Wild Places
Sara’s not just a sailor—she’s a sea-bound chef. From provisioning in remote islands to whipping up meals without refrigeration, her kitchen is always open. Ask her anything!

What 15,000 Miles Teaches You
They’ve crossed borders, surfed empty lineups, survived engine failures, and made hard calls mid-ocean. The Catalpa crew shares what the cruising lifestyle really takes—and why it’s still worth it.

Hacks, Fails & Game-Changers
From clever boat hacks to total DIY disasters, Lee and Sara aren’t afraid to share what worked—and what absolutely didn’t. Bring your questions, your boat problems, and your notebooks.
