If You Truly Want Something, You Can Make It Happen as Long as You’re Willing to Take the Chance.
Meet Steph and Travis a couple of wacky Canadians who have spent the last five years sailing around the world. Right now, they’re exploring the fjords of Norway. Back in 2018, they were sitting on the couch during a freezing Ontario winter when they stumbled across a YouTube channel called Sailing La Vagabonde ;) and thought “hey, could that lifestyle actually be possible??” They bought a boat the following year and sailed off without ever looking back in 2020.
Timing Wasn’t Exactly Ideal
Of course, timing wasn’t exactly ideal. The pandemic made travel nearly impossible, and border restrictions constantly threatened their plans. Then they discovered there was a seasonal deadline to transit through the canal system out of Canada. Miss it, and they’d be stuck waiting another year. So they made the decision to just go for it. 5 years, 3 Atlantic crossings, and over 40,000 nautical miles later, they’re grateful the border officer on duty that night didn’t get the memo and let them pass through.
And along the way, they’ve learned that cruising is really just one long exercise in problem solving and preventive maintenance. The better you get at fixing things before they break, the better life becomes out there. Anything can be fixed!

Sailing Through Greenland
One of their most unforgettable adventures so far has been sailing through Greenland. It was some of the most demanding cruising they’d ever experienced navigating icebergs, planning anchorages carefully, keeping watch for extreme weather, all while being just the two of them onboard. But that challenge made it even more rewarding. When the hard days hit they remind themselves why they’re out there in the first place. There’s still so much of the planet left to see. Storms eventually pass. Difficult projects eventually get solved. And somewhere ahead is always another calm anchorage waiting. Somehow, the highs always outweigh even the lowest lows.

Their Advice?
There’s nothing like fully experiencing life on the water. If it’s something that you’ve been really wanting, go for it! Don’t let fear or anything else get in your way. Like they say, growth starts outside your comfort zone.
